🏌️‍♂️ From Duffer to Dazzler

Why Your Club RELEASE Is the Secret to Hitting 💣💣 Next Weekend

This one actually caught me by surprise when I first came across it in preparation for this newsletter.

Which really caught me off guard because…

Well I seriously thought I’d seen just about every possible “tip” out there.

So imagine my surprise at the CHRISTMAS MIRACLE of seeing a new one!!

And no,

I’m not celebrating Christmas too early by saying that.

I just don’t think the words “Thanksgiving Miracle” have ever been said before until now lol.

But back to helping you outdrive everyone at the Thanksgiving Scramble this weekend.

If you didn’t know what “Release Point” was before this email it is essentially where you engage your wrists for extra power on your shots.

You’ll notice when you’re chipping or putting you’ll be using your shoulders and hips more and almost not turn your wrists much at all.

HOWEVER…

When you’re breaking out that driver or your irons, the extra power from your forearms when you engage your wrists is how you can add some serious heat to those shots.

And here’s how we’ll be doing just that:

✅ Be comfortable Taking an “L”: At the end of your shots with drivers and irons, your lead arm should be making an L shape (we’re not talking about your scoresheet here). This is not just an ending pose though. It is supposed to be the result from you successfully timing that release with your wrists. If you’re forcing yourself into that position after your hit then, you’ll know you’re not doing it right.

✅ Grip smarter, not harder: Strength in your swing does not come from how hard your hands are holding your club. It’s actually the opposite. The more you clench your wrist the less power you actually have. Switch up your grips and see how that impacts the speed you can get from your half or even quarter swings.

✅  Be comfortable slicing (at first): When you first try this…it’ll feel weird. But trying this out and testing out different timing with your release is one of the biggest recommendations PGA Coaches make to people when they’re trying to take their game to the next level.

❌ DO NOT FORCE IT: I am not telling you all this for you to loose all form and just wack it with only your wrists. The tips before this are to help you INTEGRATE this into your swing. It should be natural for you to use your wrists at the bottom of your swing.

Mark Crossfield has a great video on this actually where he even walks through a swinging exercise to do before the next tee-time.

Are More People REALLY Golfing??

I don’t know about you…

But it really seems like everyone is getting into golf lately.

And if you’re one of the new people coming in, fantastic.

All you have to do is promise to buy more gear than me so my addiction seems less severe lol.

It turns out I’m not alone in this feeling though and there’s even data to back it up.

You see in case you weren’t aware, Golf was HUGE during the pandemic.

Which really makes sense when it’s one of the main sports where “social distancing” between big groups is almost guaranteed.

(Except for when you have that small group behind yours that is just flying through the course and is riding your tail)

This trend not only didn’t fade away after the 2020-2021 pandemic though, but also maintained itself afterwards.

The exact numbers are as follows…

The year-to-date average of 2,910 rounds played per course per month means there are 646 more rounds per course per month being played – or an extra of 21 more people per day.

Golf Business News

It seems like a lot of people have caught the golf bug since these last few years and don’t seem to be slowing down.

This is especially evident not only with the increase of TikToks I see about golfers every day but also with big names getting into the golf entertainment space.

I mean, how many other golf organizations other than PGA could you name before LIV and TGL started to throw their hat in the game?

When rich people start to throw their money into things like this…

You know it’s hear to stay.

(Even though it’s reported that Tiger’s big TGL debut is delayed until 2025 apparently 👀)

If you want to read more on the increase in golfers, Adam Lawrence wrote a very extensive piece on the whole thing.
