6 Dos and Donā€™ts for Getting Out of Bunkers

Even if we donā€™t like to admit itā€¦

Weā€™ve ALL ended up in a bunker before.

Either due to an unlucky gust of wind or a bad bounce

(And possibly because we forgot our 60* wedge canā€™t quite make it 90 yards WITH back spin included)

So letā€™s break down the 6 things you can do to recover from unfortunate bunker shotsā€¦

āœ… Shuffle Feet into sand and bend the knees: While both of these are to be done minimally, ensuring your feet are flat and your balance is secure will drastically improve your shot.

āŒ DONā€™T lean back and ā€œscoop the ballā€: You need to keep your swing as normal as possible, leaning back on your shot will cause you to hit way too far behind the golf ball and make your wrists work more than they should.

āœ… Hit Behind the Golf Ball: I know I just talked about not hitting too far behind your ball but thatā€™s because itā€™s a balance. You should try to hit about two inches behind the ball but you can move that number slightly to change how much back spin and lob your shot has.

āŒ DONā€™T stop your club at the ball: This is a problem too many people have. You lose all the height of your shot when you stop shy. Follow through.

āœ… Use the RIGHT Club: Thereā€™s a difference between Sand Wedges and Lob Wedges (Iā€™ll put my favorite of each down below). Both get you out of sand traps but the Sand Wedge gives you more roll in case youā€™re farther away from the pin. The Lob Wedge, on the other hand, gives you more backspin and loft when you need backspin.

āŒ DONā€™T Over Focus on ā€œFlag Positionā€: Donā€™t take risky shots that will put you closer to the pin when you know youā€™ll lose another stroke and stay in the bunker. Set yourself up for the best next shot possible, but donā€™t act like you all of a sudden have a PGA level lob shot.

Tiger Woods vs. YouTube Golfers šŸ‘€

A couple weeks ago Tiger Woods was asked a very interesting question.

One heā€™s undoubtedly been asked time and time again.

ā€œWhat advice would you give to a beginner at golf?ā€

You can watch the video down below for his responseā€¦

BUT in case you didnā€™t watch it his answer was,

ā€œDonā€™t watch fšŸ’©ing YouTubeā€

Something that famous YouTube Golfer Rick Shiels had a few words on for sure.

Now, both Rick and Tiger have valid points.

āœ… Thereā€™s no amount of video watching that beats ā€œhitting ballsā€ as Tiger puts it

HOWEVERā€¦

šŸ˜¬ Not everyoneā€™s full time job is ā€œhitting ballsā€ as Rick Shields and other commentators put it.

So I think the most correct way of saying it is, like most things in the world, a little bit of both

YouTube is AWESOME, especially when youā€™re just starting out.

BUT, if itā€™s taking you away from getting to the greens then itā€™s best to follow Tigerā€™s advice andā€¦

ā€œDonā€™t watch fšŸ’©ing YouTubeā€

Now Iā€™m definitely not perfect.

Iā€™ve watched WAY too much YouTube videos on golf.

Though Iā€™ve recently loved getting into online golf trainings to help me focus on a few parts of my game Iā€™m trying to focus on.

Curious what everyoneā€™s thoughts on online golf trainings to, let me know down below!
