3 Steps to Improve Your Irons (For Beginners and Experts)

For all those who are getting ready to jump on some Black Friday Deals coming up at golf courses, the last thing you want to happen is shanking your irons.

This is especially true when you finally splurge on those $300 greens fee courses and you’re surrounded by people both way richer and way better at golf than you…

Not to mention when those shank shots are flying through the air a little too close to those course-side MULTI-Million Dollar Houses.

After reading this though, both those fears are going to be in the past.

Today’s tip comes from PGA Coaches Piers Ward and Andy Proudman which you can watch in full below or keep reading to break down the 3 Steps

Step #1: Keep Your Feet in The Game. One of the biggest mistakes people make is that they lose track of where their feet are pointing. And don’t read this and think I’m giving you the “most obvious tip ever”. Because, while it is the most obvious tip, it is also one of the only things that better swinging and grip can never change.

So before you drop another $100 into lessons or gear, just have someone in your group drop a club at your feet and on your swing path to ensure you’re not making any simple mistakes.

Step #2: Don’t Lose the Thumb War. When a lot of people grab their irons they’re going to have the tendency to grip it like a baseball bat. That tendency is very difficult to break unless you consciously choose to.

The next time you grab your irons then ensure that your:

✅ Lead hand is slightly opened up so you’re showing the center of your glove forward

✅ Keep your thumb just slightly over the center line

AND

❌ Do NOT shift the club in your hands mid swing. If you can’t hold the club the same through your swing then you aren’t gripping it right

Step #3: Flick the Mud Drill. This is one of the greatest drills I think I’ve ever seen to help not only the pacing of a swing but also the grip and swing path to. You can watch the 6 ½ Minute Drill Here but it basically involves flipping the golf club around so you don’t have the counterweight of the head and simply practice the movement of swinging it right to the perfect point in your backswing.

 🤓 Clubhouse Critiques

Is this the best golf simulator on the market 👀??

I’m not sure about you, but my instagram is well aware that I love seeing golf content.

I know people always complain about the “algorithms” brainwashing people.

But…

From my point of view I love it when the ambivalent Zuckerberg blesses me with videos like this when I didn’t know it was something I wanted to see 👇

What you’re looking at here is the Golf VX - T2 Simulator.

Meanwhile, Zuck is looking at the Senate Building if you are keeping up on his court case 😂.

But hey, we’re here for golf so let’s stay with it.

Now, while this is not an advertisement for the Golf VX company I do highly recommend showing them some love on Instagram.

We all love it when people within the golf community are taking the world of golf to a whole new level.

These bad boys:

✅ Track your progress from hit to hit

✅ Have a balance plate that shifts the pad you stand on to the course you’re playing

✅ Includes a sand mode

AND

✅ They take your soul as payment

Okay that last one was a joke because these machines do get quiet pricey

But just look at this

I personally have gotten really into tracking my swing path while I’m practicing or even playing and it has helped a ton.

Being able to not only see how you’re slicing or hooking in real time with the screen below is a really unique design.

Who knows, maybe they’ll be all replaced with the Apple Vision Pro that’s been taking my socials by store though 👀

Before that is even a potential for happening though I really do love the advancement these companies are making with their equipment.

If you’ve been reading these issues for some time, then you for sure know how my dream is to have a full set up for a golf simulator at my place soon.

Until then though we’re starting to see numerous Golf VR locations popping up around the U.S. anyone with a $100 credit card limit can visit.

(And according to Golf VX their set ups are at over 4,000 of them)

Have you tried Golf VR yet??

Trivia Answer:

TRUE. In the early 1900s golfers would carry a small bag of sand with them to make their “sand tees”
