Mastering you Woods and Hybrids

Trivia Question: In what year did John Daly win his first major championship, the PGA Championship? Answer Below.

🏌️‍♂️ From Duffer to Dazzler

How to Use Your Woods and Hybrids the RIGHT WAY

If It’s a Par Three Then Leave It In The Sleeve. Your woods and hybrids are only to be used when you need 150+ yards out of your shot. So unless you’ve shanked your driver on a par three then you likely won’t be needing this club. Not only are these designed to help you get the most out of your swing. They’re also designed to have a lot of roll and bounce once they land.

Start Good, Finish Good. To avoid hitting the ground too far in front of the ball, slightly tilt the handle of the club toward your lead leg. This will ensure you get more lift off the ball and keep your club face open at contact. Mark Crossfield also recommends lining up the ball “just forward of center” like a shot with your driver.

When To Use Your HYBRID vs WOOD. Depending on how deep your ball is in the rough or even fairway entirely determines how effective a wood or hybrid will be. Shawn Clement, of the Royal Quebec Golf Club, has a great video on this where he demonstrates how depending on how deep your ball is sitting in the rough can entirely determine if you’ll need a wood, hybrid, or even iron. Basic rule of thumb is unless it’s NOT resting right on top of the grass, go with your hybrid or even irons if it’s in deep rough.

Keep focus on DISTANCE and not LOFT. Remember, hybrids and woods being are great at carrying after they come down from the shot for nearly 20 extra yards if done right. This is how the club is designed to be. You can get the most out of your shots then by following Alex Fortey’s 4-minute swing guide and ensuring the “low point” of your swing is just past the ball.

Is Night Golf the New “Top Golf”??

Earlier this month the Rolling Hills Golf Course became the FIRST fully lit, 18-hole golf course.

But that’s not all…

Every single hole is a par 3 on the course 👀

Could this be the future of the current trend of tending to the more relaxed, time-constrained golf enthusiasts??

Credit to Golf Week

The big reason golf has seen such a big surge in popularity since 2020 has been from that demographic after all.

And with that being said…

That type of golfer is the EXACT person who would play a quick 18-holes of par 3s after work.

This is especially true with the fact that the age range of that demographic is likely to not have a young family to get back to.

But, from an economic stand point it’s hard to say how many of them will do that late night play AGAIN.

Repeat customers is the name of the game for places like this after all.

Not to mention that playing golf at night, under lights might make people MORE hungry for playing a real 18-hole game on a weekend.

So there are two sides of this strategy that can easily both play out…

And only time will tell if you’ll be seeing one of these golf courses popping up in your hometown 👀

(Undoubtedly not to those of us who don’t live in a year-round golfing climate like Arizona 😂)
