Biggest Mistakes People Make From 100 Yards Out

In Tuesday’s newsletter we talked about how to increase our accuracy with our irons.

But this gets incredibly difficult when our ball lands in the 100 yard range of pin.

Laying up these shots on the green can be incredibly difficult as you still need some power in your swing but you also don’t need all of it.

Here’s some of the biggest mistakes I’ve found people across all skill levels make in both the setup and in the execution 👇

Don’t stand too far away from the ball. The more you stand back from your ball, the more rotation and power you put on your swing. Alex Elliot Golf recommends your hands being placed the same distance from the bottom of your grip as the top of your grip.

Don’t stand like you’re hitting a 50 yard shot. Your chest should be slightly over the ball and your shaft slightly at an angle like you probably know already BUT you also need to ensure you do have enough power in your shot. Starting your weight slightly more on your lead foot, about 60/40 is a great way to reach that balance.

Don’t transfer too much weight. Going the opposite way, too much weight transfer is also how you over hit your shots. With that 60/40 rule in mind then try to end at around 70/30 between your lead and back leg. This keeps that power down while still allowing you to get full use out of your club.

Don’t forget to check your divots. Cameron McCormick has a great lesson he gives on this. What you’re going to want to do is put two golf pins on either side of your ball when you hit. This is going to be a great tell on two things: if you’re striking the ground too far from the ball and if you’re going too deep.

Top Golf In Danger??

Have you heard about the 4 story tall MEGA Driving range that’s being built in Las Vegas??

It came across my news feed last night and blew me away.

According to reports behemoth named Atomic Range

🔥 Has over 100 hitting bays

🔥 Encompasses nearly 7 acres

🔥 Has 4 putting areas

🔥 And Full Bar and Lounges

They even have a full walkthrough of what it’ll look like in 2024 when doors are expected to open

As to what Top Golf is doing to answer back to this big movement into the space they’ve pioneered…

We’ve heard nothing.

(Nothing close to what PGA has done to LIV)

Perhaps this is the beginning of the end for TopGolf, or maybe they’ll become something like the Walmart to Atomic Range’s Gucci.

Where there’s more TopGolfs…

But everyone still hopes they’ll one day get to go to Atomic Range
